Claude API in India
Pay in USDT, BTC, or ETH. No 18% GST. No 2-3% forex. No card declined after 3DS authentication.
Why direct Anthropic struggles in India
- 1.Direct Anthropic at $20/month works out to ₹1,700-₹2,200 in real terms after 18% GST + 2-3% forex per charge — 40-50% premium baked in before you make a single API call
- 2.UPI, RuPay, Paytm wallet, and PhonePe wallet are all refused by Stripe-backed US SaaS billing — even when you have the funds
- 3.3D Secure authentication often fails on cross-border USD charges from Indian banks; the error message is identical regardless of the cause
- 4.Pro plan at $19 USDT (lifetime) is approximately ₹1,650 once, no recurring forex bleed and no GST trigger
What you actually pay
Local-currency real cost includes 18% GST + ~2-3% forex on every USD card charge. Pro plan is paid once in USDT — no recurring tax/forex trigger.
Per-model rates on the Pro plan
80% off official Anthropic list, paid against your USDT balance. No recurring forex or GST per API call. GPT-5 and Gemini 3 on the same key — full pricing.
Setup from India
- Sign up at claudeapi.cheap/signup — email or Google, no card, no phone, no KYC.
- Buy USDT in INR on Binance P2P, Bybit P2P, or your local exchange of choice. TRC-20 is the cheapest network (~$0.05 fee).
- Top up your balance from the dashboard. Send USDT from your wallet — credits land in 1-2 minutes.
- Create a key (sk-cc-…) from dashboard → Keys → Create.
- Drop in — two env vars and your existing Anthropic SDK works unchanged:
export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY="sk-cc-your-key-here"
export ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL="https://claudeapi.cheap/api/proxy"
# Now your existing Anthropic SDK, Claude Code,
# Cline, Aider, OpenClaw, Cursor — all work at 80% off.Local-payment-method to USDT walkthrough for India developers: Pay for Claude API with crypto.
FAQ — India specific
Does GST apply to a crypto top-up?
In most jurisdictions including India, digital service GST rules are written around fiat payment processors (credit cards, bank transfers). Crypto-to-crypto wallet transfers for digital service payments don't trigger the same automatic GST collection. Check with a local tax advisor for your specific situation — we're describing how the rails work, not giving tax advice.
Can I use UPI to top up?
Not directly — Anthropic and most US-based SaaS don't accept UPI. However, you can use UPI to buy USDT on Binance P2P or WazirX (when active), then send the USDT to your ClaudeAPI.cheap balance. UPI → USDT → balance is the standard workflow for Indian developers and takes 5-10 minutes the first time.
Will my Indian debit card work?
Visa debit and Mastercard debit issued by major Indian banks sometimes work for direct Anthropic, sometimes don't — depends on the bank's 3DS support for cross-border USD charges. RuPay debit is reliably refused. We accept crypto only, which removes the card entirely from the loop.
What's the cheapest crypto path from INR?
Binance P2P for USDT (TRC-20) is typically the cheapest path: buy USDT with INR via P2P from a local seller at near-spot rate, then withdraw to your ClaudeAPI.cheap balance. TRC-20 network fee is ~$0.05. Total time end-to-end: 5-10 minutes the first time, 30 seconds every time after.
Are there any local-payment alternatives?
Not directly through us — we're crypto-prepaid only. The most-used path from India is: bank account → Binance P2P → USDT → ClaudeAPI.cheap. Once the USDT is in your wallet, top-up is instant.
